Loughborough’s Melanie Marshall was perhaps a surprise winner of teh 100 free, holding off the experienced KArne Pickering to take the title and claim her place in the Commonwealth games. Both girls swam under the qualifying time, but third placed Karn Legg will have to wait and see if she gets a place. The second surprise must be that Ros Brett could only manage 5th, although she may get a swim by virtue of her qualification in other events.
