14/04/2002: Women's 50 free final
The expected winner with Alison Sheppard simply too good for the rest of the field, wining in a time slightly slower than her new commonwealth record. Ros Brett was first english swimmer home, but Melanie Marshall took full advantage of Therese Alsjammer's withdrawal from the final to claim third and sneak under the qualifying time, having originally finished 9th in the semis. Karen Pickering could only manage 5= but may get a a swim in this event anyway.
