British Swimming Releases Elite Club Funding

Following last year’s reduction in number of centrally funded training centres from five to just two, British Swimming has instead launched a new performance funding programme for clubs, distributing over £100,000 to programmes housing swimmers on the podium and podium potential funding groups.

Funding is targeted at clubs where at least one podium athlete and/or three podium potential athletes are based, with a view to supporting additional services and activities, including training camps, sports science support, equipment and coaching support.

Clubs who sought funding had to identify priority areas where investment could enhance swimmer development and the overall club programme. Following a thorough selection process, this year’s funds will be directed to 7 clubs who provide 18 swimmers to the nationally funded pool. Those are City of Derby, City of Manchester, Millfield, Plymouth Leander, City of Sheffield, Stockport Metro and Warrender Baths.

British Swimming Head of Performance Services Adam Clarke commented: “Performance club funding is an important part of our strategy to ensure a number of our key clubs have the support they need to provide a quality training environment for World Class Programme athletes.”
