eleven for phelps at trials?

Michael Phelps did little to quell speculation that he is chasing Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold medals at a single Olympics as he announced his schedule for next month’s US Olympic trials. The Baltimore teenager will compete in eleven events as he seeks selection for the Athens Games.
In addition to his usual repertoire of 100 and 200 fly and the two individual medley events, Australian media sources are reporting that Phelps has added swims in the 100, 200, 400 and 1500 free, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke.
This spread of events represents every event that he has qualified for at these trials, and whether the teenager will actually complete all of them remains to be seen. It is likely that even a swimmer of Phelp’s calibre would struggle with such a demanding programme and it is likely that this is an elaborate ruse to keep his rivals guessing as to which events he will contest in earnest in Athens.
