Lancashire retained their National County Team Championship title at Ponds Forge, as they took their fourth consecutive crown in a hard fought battle against long time adversaries Yorkshire. The roses rivals could not be separated on the points tally after the final event, with Lancashire eventually taking the title on count back.
Yorkshire had the top spot leading in to the final 6x50m relay, but a win to Lancashire saw the two teams draw level as their rivals could only finish 5th. That was enough to ensure that the trophy remained west of the Pennines for another year. Third place went to Northumberland and Durham who were well clear of fourth placed Middlesex.
Meanwhile in Division 2, Devon recorded a resounding win, finishing 18 points ahead of runner up Linconshire. Staffordshire and Suffolk also secured promotion to Division 1 for next year.
