speedo league finals: live results

The two National Speedo League Finals for 2004 will be taking place in Sheffield today, as Britain’s top clubs battle it out for the honours. The teams will be hit this year by the absence of the Olympic team, whoa re at the French national championships, and a large contingent of Britain’s Junior swimmers away in Australia. That will have little impact on the intensity of the competition however, with everything to swim for at Pond’s Forge.
In the A final, there looks to be a three way battle brewing between the powerhouses of this competition Leeds, Coventry and Portsmouth Northsea, who are back in the A final, after missing out altogether last year. All three clubs will be hit by withdrawals so it will come down to strength in depth on the day, but don’t count out Millfield who always perform strongly in this competition.
The B final is also sure to be hotly contested, but is likely to be between defending champions Kingston upon Hull and last year’s surprise packed in the A final, Leatherhead. It’s too close to call which way it will go, but it should be very close battle. The performance of Exeter City will also be interesting as they only took the place of Speedo Western runners up City of Cardiff a few weeks ago, the Welsh club having withdrawn following a clash of dates with the Welsh age group championships.
