world record for liesel

Australian Leisel Jones showed that record breaking was not a purely American phenomenon as she took three one hundredths of a second off the 200m breaststroke world record at a meet in Queensland. The Brisbane teenager clocked 2:22.96 to remove the old record, jointly held by China’s Hu Qi and the USA’s Amanda Beard. The result means that Jones now holds both the 100 and 200m world records and was even more remarkable since it came at the end of a tough week’s training, when she completed 70,000m in the pool. Jones will now start as a firm favourite in Athens, with her coach Ken Wood predicting that she will swim faster at the Olympics.
