privacy policy

The following statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect about you.

Statement of intent

From time to time, you will be asked to submit personal information about yourself (e.g. name and email address etc) in order to receive or use services on our website. Such services include but are not limited to our mailing list, competitions, alerts, meet listings, job listings or polls. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy.

Information on visitors

During the course of a visit to pullbuoy, depending on which parts of the site you use, a cookie may be downloaded to your computer. For example when you vote in a poll or log in to our meet listing service. This allows us to do things like find out whether the computer, and hence probably its user, has visited pullbuoy before and voted in a poll for instance and to ensure that the meet listings service works correctly. This is done by checking to see, and finding, the cookie left there on the last visit.

In addition the web server on which pullbuoy resides collates information on the systems used when accessing the site. This provides non-personal statistical information about visits to pages on the site, the duration of individual page view, paths taken by visitors through the site, data on visitors' screen settings and other general information, which may include your IP address. This information remains anonymous and is not used for any purpose beyond assessing how pullbuoy may be improved.

Use and storage of your personal information

When you supply any personal information to pullbuoy (e.g. for competitions, meet listings, mailing list or alerts) we have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with that data. Personal information requested by pullbuoy may take the form of e-mail addresses or mobile phone numbers for example.

Any information you provide to pullbuoy will only be used by pullbuoy. It will never be supplied to anyone outside pullbuoy for marketing or any other purpose. If such a situation arose whereby we wished to pass on such information we would not do so without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.

Additionally, if you post or send offensive or inappropriate content anywhere on or to pullbuoy or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on pullbuoy, and pullbuoy considers such behaviour to be serious and/or repeated, pullbuoy can use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may include informing relevant third parties such as your employer, school or e-mail provider about the content and your behaviour or blocking your IP address from accessing the site.

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as you use the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose has been met, or you ask us to remove it, e.g. by opting out of our mailing list.

Contacting you

From time to time we may wish to contact certain users for administration purposes, this means that pullbuoy may contact you for a number of purposes related to the service you have signed up for. For example, we may wish to tell you about changes to the way you use our meet listing or links services.

We will only send information of a promotional nature, e.g. advising of new features, articles or services, to those users who have opted to receive such mailings by signing up for the pullbuoy mailing list. These may occasionally include relevant commercial information from site sponsors, but messages purely containing commercial or advertising material will never be sent by pullbuoy to its mailing list.

Users 16 and under

If you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent or guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide personal information to pullbuoy's website. Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information.
