Furniss plots course for his tight ship
“Buy in or buy out” – that was the thrust of the message as Bill Furniss outlined his plans for British Swimming over the three years to Rio to an audience of coaches at the BSCA annual conference. They were told that performance will be rewarded, while mediocrity will not be tolerated as the work to avoid a repeat of Britain’s London disappointment begins.

Plymouth Leander head coach Jon Rudd was named coach of the year at the BSCA annual conference in Birmingham in recognition of a stellar year for his swimmers. Rudd is of course the coach of Ruta Meilutyte who has won just about every title there is going this year as well as setting a hatful of records in the process.

The conference gave a chance to speak to England’s Commonwealth Games head coach for 2014, Jon Rudd, as well as Millfield’s Jol Finck who coached James Guy to such an impressive 2013 and Warrender’s Laurel Bailey who guided Craig McNally to some fine performances in Barcelona.
