Simon Burnett smashed through his day old British record in the 200m freestyle to become the first swimmer confirmed for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. He was joined on the plane to Melbourne by World Bronze medallist Liam Tancock who took the 50m backstroke title, but Kate Haywood, Mark Foster and Katy Sexton just missed out on automatic selection in the 100m breaststroke.

The US swimming team retained its Duel in the Pool title in the biennial match up with Australia’s Telstra Dolphins in Irvine, California last night. Despite closing the gap from the inaugural event in 2003, the Australian squad went down 190-102 in the duel meet format competition.

davies and tancock save the best for last
Liam Tancock and David Davies rescued what has been an otherwise wretched competition for Britain on the last night of competition at the World Cchampionships in Montreal. The duo took bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 1500m freestyle respectively, as the meet ended leaving Britain with an overall tally of three third places. There was also a 6th placed finish in the 50m Breaststroke for Kate Haywood.
