Three of England’s gold medal winners from Manchester will be in Melbourne attempting to retain the titles they won in 2002. Only two of them will be sporting the red rose however as the third, Zoe Baker, returns under the silver fern. The former British swimmer is aiming to add a second Commonwealth gold medal to her collection but this time for her adopted New Zealand.

British Swimming has launched an independent enquiry into allegations of bullying levelled at national performance director Bill Sweetenham.

burnett rounds off in style
In a fitting climax to the Commonwealth Games Trials, Simon Burnett, undoubtedly the swimmer of the week, set his 5th British record, lowering the 100m freestyle standard again as he confirmed his third individual swim. He was joined on the team by Jo Jackson who qualified in the 400m freestyle, while Chris Cook added another swim to his programme by winning the 50m breaststroke.
