World Aquatics today loaded individual event entries on to the World Championships site and gave us a first look at what the British team will be swimming in Singapore.
The big story was the resolution of the 200m freestyle tie-breaker between James Guy and Duncan Scott who finished joint first at the British Championships. Guy has got the sport with Scott focussing instead on the 200IM. Scott had in fact dropped a huge hint that this would be the case at the AP International meet in May having said in his post race poolside interview that his victory in the 200 free there would be his “last of the season”. For Guy, this is his only individual swim, with no entry in the 400 freestyle.
Elsewhere, Tom Dean picks up a 200IM spot alongside Scott, despite his protestations at trials that he would be relay only in Singapore, but evidently he feels confident in his progress back towards full fitness that he can take this on alongside his relay commitments.
Beyond that there were few real surprises in the entries and they mainly follow expectations after the team announcement, but there is a slot in the 400m freestyle for Jack McMillan
Finally, and perhaps reflecting the greater importance of 50m events now they are in the Olympics, Lauren Cox will swim the 50m backstroke in which she set a British Record earlier this year and Max Morgan the 50m breaststroke as their only individual events while several other swimmers are able to add the 50m event of their respective stroke to their programme.
Relay entries are not yet confirmed, but those swimmers without an individual swim are not listed on the World Aquatics website.
