No sooner had British Swimming announced their funding lists for 2023/24, they also announced a bumper sized squad would head to Romania in December to contest the European Short Course Championships. A team of 35 is large for a meet in a 25m format that doesn’t always attract significant support from British Swimming, but this probably reflects the needs of the coming Olympic season

Consistency the Key for Funding as Paris Looms
It was less “reinventing the wheel” than it was “steady as she goes” as British Swimming named 54 swimmers to the 2023/24 funding lists ahead of Olympic season. The total number of funded swimmers grew by 1 from last year, but the relatively small turnover, reflects a desire for consistency ahead of the big show in Paris next summer.
