British Champs Day 4 – Selection Tracker

It was a day for the preselected swimmers in Sheffield as James Wilby and Anna Hopkin were the only competitors to make the GB selection standard. There was a maiden British title for Katie Shanahan in the 200m backstroke while at the other end of the spectrum James Guy won his 20th in the 100 fly.

The British Championships is at least part of the selection process for Britain’s World Championship team and the Commonwealth Games teams for England, Wales and Scotland, as outlined in greater detail in our guides to each policy.

Below we have summarised the selection position after day 1 of competition. Please note this is only our interpretation of how each policy will be applied and final selections need to be confirmed by the relevant selectors in due course. If you spot an error please get in touch.

Britain

Hopkin was preselected for the mixed medley relay but secured an individual 100 free spot, while Wilby was already confirmed for the 200 breaststroke but made double sure. Of note was the fact that e men’s medley relay team failed to make the British Swimming consideration time, but given all four potential members are already selected individually, it’s unthinkable that the team won’t swim.

England

Jacob Peters was the only new name to be added to the England selection picture , while the men’s medley relay confirmed their qualification status. As with GB all four individual members were already due to travel so the team would most likely have taken part anyway.

Wales

The day 4 Wales selection position is below.

Scotland

Lucy Hope in the 100 free was the only addition for Scotland on day 4 with Katie Shanahan also making a consideration time, adding the 200 backstroke to the 400IM.
