European Junior Championships – Day 4

Al in all an encouraging 4 days for the British team in Linz as the final day of competition drew to a close. A significant improvement on last years medal tally was achieved with Kate Haywood’s gold in the 50m breastroke the highlight, but she will, unfortunately, not be please with her 100m final swim.

Having recorded a superb 69.85 in the semi, hopes were high that Haywood could take the senior British record and the gold. It wasn’t to be however, as she escorted a disappointing time of 1:11.05. This was however good enough for the Bronze medal. the experience will also be a tremendous asset for the Manchester Commonwealth games which start in just under 2 weeks.

Elsewhere, Kathryn Wyld finished a creditable 8th in the 200m freestyle and Carl Grovesnor swam a strong 1500 to finish in 13th place, whilst Tom Herbert recorded an 11s PB to finish 5th in the same event. The girls medley relay team also made their final finishing 7th.
