MacInnes and Colbert Headline – Day 1 Selection Tracker

A mixed bag on the opening night in London with the ladies making all the moves to Singapore as the first set of tickets to the far east were rubber stamped at the British Championships and World Championship selection trials.

Keanna MacInnes was first to get in on the act, with a new Scottish Record of 2:07.14 over 200m butterfly taking her comfortably inside the required standard. She held off Emily Richards who was just outside the selection time but may yet get the selector’s nod.

In the last final of the night, Freya Colbert threw down the second fastest 200 freestyle ever by a British woman, falling just 0.22 off the British Record in 1:55.76, a new best for her. She was followed home by a very encouraging 1:57.80 lifetime best from Leah Schlosshan, like Richards newly of the Manchester Performance Centre, which when added to the finishing times of Abbie Wood and Lucy Hope meant the women’s 4×200 relay quartet also made the grade. The other big news in this event was Freya Anderson finishing 9th in the heats and being consigned to the B final which she duly won.

On the men’s side, James Guy’s return to the 400m freestyle gave him the British title, but having faded off a very strong opening 200m, he fell just shy of the qualification standard. A similar fate befell Greg Butler, who at least had the consolation of a first swim under 60s as he won the 100 breaststroke in 59.93. That also gives him a shot at medley relay selection.

In the non-selection 50m breaststroke event, Kara Hanlon took gold in 30.80.
