Ollie Morgan stamped his authority all over the third night of finals at the London Aquatic Centre, demolishing his own British Record in the 100m backstroke with a 52.12 blast.
He was left ruing a long finish that perhaps cost him a 51 point swim but nonetheless improved the national record by almost 0.6s as he easily qualified for the world championships. Behind him Jonny Marshall was agonisingly close to the qualification standard, missing out by just 0.01 in 53.21.
Angharad Evans was also in top form, setting another new lifetime best and Scottish Record in the 200m breaststroke in breaking the 2:22 barrier for the first time with 2:21.86. She was comfortably inside the Singapore qualifying standard, but runner up Kara Hanlon fell about a second shy in 2:24.07.
In the women’s 50m freestyle Eva Okaro justified her favourite tag with a lifetime best of 24.48 to easily make the selection standard. She was well clear of runner up Rebecca Guy, who finished in 25.02.
The night wrapped up in fine style with an epic two lap race in the men’s 100 freestyle. Matt Richards held off the young Repton upstart Jacob Mills by 47.92 to 48.03, Mills setting his second lifetime best of the day. With Tom Dean in third and Jacob Whittle fourth, the men’s 4×100 also punched their ticket for Singapore.
